WMC Muay Thai Belt for Kevin Ross versus Asa Ten Pow

Set up in 1995 The WMC has a long and heralded history in the sport. It is sanctioned by the Sports Authority of Thailand and received patronage from the late King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej in 2014.

The WMC MAD title is part of a “social campaign aimed at getting people addicted to Muay Thai as opposed to drugs,” sports director for the WMC Andrew Scott said.

Sanctioning the bout was an easy step for the WMC. Both boxers have histories with the organization.

“Kevin was one of the pioneers of American Muay Thai. And he’s done a lot for the sport,” Scott said. “He’s got the intercontinental title at 63.5kg.”

Ross took on Leandro Duarte for the WMC Intercontinental Title in Lima, Peru in November of 2018.

This bout will see Ross take on Ten Pow in the same superlightweight division of 140lbs/63.5kg.

Ten Pow has participated in several IFMA (International Federation of Muay Thai Associations) games.

Charged with expanding Muay Thai, the WMC has been a large driving force behind IFMA. It has helped push to get Muay Thai into the Olympics.

A highlight for America was Ten Pow’s participation in the IFMA games of 2018. He scored a huge points win over Sawarat Kuasri in the superlightweight division.

It will be Ten Pow’s first shot at a world title and he’s up for the challenge that is Kevin Ross.

“This is important for me, because of Kevin Ross being who he is as an icon in American Muay Thai,” Ten Pow said. “The factor of it being for a world title and that it will be here in my hometown and my home state is big.”

The WMC has sanctioned a host of other prestigious champions including Yodsanklai Fairtex, Buakaw Banchamek, Caley Reece, and Anuwat Kaewsamrit.

Set for a WMC title Ross will take on Ten Pow at the famed James Knight Center. The large venue will host a crowd of 1,000 (due to Covid restrictions) and the seats are going fast.

Also slated to be on the card are other international standouts like Bekah Irwin, Jason Andrada, Troy Jones, Amine Ballafrikh, Tierra Brandt, Coral Carnicella, and more.

The bout will be live streamed on Fite TV.
