Barlow Is A Top Muay Thai Fighter
Iman Barlow is one of the top female Muay Thai fighters in the world. Ranked #2 by the WBC Muay Thai, The Pretty Killer has been topping charts for a long time.
The UK native began fighting very early. Her father was an enthusiast of the sport and began training his children from a young age. By nine years old Barlow had secured international Kickboxing titles.
She would go on to become a professional athlete in 2008, while still a teenager. As she grew into adulthood Barlow would continue her sensational streak.
She took multiple championships to her hometown of Leicestershire, England.
Her moves have gotten her Enfusion, Lion Fight, WBC, and WMC titles. She currently has an impressive record of 103 fights, 93 wins 6 losses, and 3 draws.
Barlow is a traditional Muay Thai fighter that has it all.
“I've got good technique, I've got power. I love the sport. And I always try and put on a show,” she said.
Barlow Is A Leader
The fiery fighter is blazing new trails for athletes, especially for females.
“I've always been the only girl in the gym. I'm not bothered, and that's just the way it is,” Barlow said.
Sticking it out as the only girl has led her to travel around the world and inspire other women as well.
“Women within Muay Thai, we're getting better and better. We’re clearing the way for other women to be confident too. Whether you want to do it for fitness or to fight.”
Muay Thai is changing with the times. Lumpinee Stadium in Thailand will soon have its first ever female bouts. ONE Championship is hosting an all female fight card. And female Muay Thai fighters are appearing regularly on entertainment shows in Bangkok.
“Female athletes are opening doors for the martial arts. Before it was more, martial arts is for men,” Barlow said.
There is no doubt. Barlow is leading the way, creating new opportunities for other women.
Barlow Is A Real Life Superhero
Barlow never imagined she would fight crime. But that’s exactly what happened one fine summer day in Spain. She and her friends were vacationing in a coastal town. Ready to go out for lunch they were standing right outside of their hotel when they saw a mugging in progress.
“There were two robbers on a motorcycle with helmets. And they tried to snatch this guy's watch,” Barlow said.
The champ saw the robbers begin to ride by. She looked at her friends and then locked on her target. She sent one of the muggers flying with a teep. He landed hard on the sidewalk.
“The mugger got up looked at us. ‘Like, why did you do that?’ And then he ran,” Barlow said.
A little girl started screaming that the robber had her father’s watch. So off Barlow and her friends went. They sprinted after the mugger and caught up to him. Soon the Spanish police arrived, and the situation was cleared up.
The mugger had tried to steal the father’s watch which was worth 25,000 pounds. The father and his family were so happy with Barlow’s performance she gained a cash reward for her good deed.
“We went and spent it on burgers,” Barlow said.
Barlow’s adventures got her serious attention. She ended up in local and international news for her act of bravery.
